About AVSED
Here for Aireborough's older people since 1992.
AVSED is a local charity based in Rawdon, supporting older people across Guiseley, Yeadon and Rawdon to stay active, connected and independent. We run friendly groups, gentle exercise and one-to-one support, and we welcome everyone over 60.
Our story
Thirty years of supporting our community.
AVSED began in 1992, started by a group of local people in Yeadon who saw how many older people were facing loneliness and isolation. The name stood for Aireborough Voluntary Services to the Elderly with Disabilities. The disabilities work later stopped so we could focus fully on older people, and the AVSED name stayed.
We started out at Suffolk Court in Yeadon and ran activities at venues across the area. In 2016 we moved to Nunroyd Pavilion, with offices upstairs and groups in the hall below. In 2023 we moved again to our home today, Greenacre Hall in Rawdon.
In July 2022 we marked 30 years of supporting Aireborough seniors. That same year we reviewed the whole charity, relaunched with a new look and a new logo, and kept the AVSED name that local people know and trust.

A small, experienced staff team runs AVSED day to day, working alongside our volunteers, the local community and support from across Leeds.
Our staff team
Our staff lead the groups, run our services and support members and families across Aireborough. They are the friendly faces you will meet at Greenacre Hall and out in the community.
Our trustees
A volunteer board of trustees guides the charity and keeps us true to our purpose. We are looking for new trustees to help shape what AVSED does next. If that could be you, we would love to hear from you.
Part of something bigger
One of 37 Leeds networks.
AVSED is part of the Leeds Neighbourhood Network Scheme, one of 37 local organisations that help older people stay independent and part of their community. Membership is free and open to anyone over 60 living in Guiseley, Yeadon, Rawdon and parts of Apperley Bridge.
