Activities and support for older people.

From gentle exercise and social clubs to memory groups and one-to-one help, AVSED runs a full week of activities and services across Aireborough. Here is what is on, and how to get involved.

What's on

Groups, classes and events.

Regular sessions run through the week, with something for everyone and a warm welcome at every one. Please call us to find out more and book your place before coming along, rather than just turning up.

Exercise and movement

Back to Basics

Gentle, seated exercise to music, working the whole body with balls, bands and light weights. Refreshments and a chat after.

Level 2 group · £5

Stepping Up

A quicker, standing and seated class with more aerobic work. The next step on from Back to Basics, with refreshments after.

Level 3 group · £5

Tai Chi Foundation

A welcoming, fully standing beginners' class working on flexibility, balance and posture, with breathing and meditation.

Level 4 group · £6.50

Tai Chi Progressing

An intermediate class for people who have done tai chi before or moved up from our foundation group.

Social and friendship

Variety Club

Games, live music and themed afternoons, with refreshments throughout. A lively, varied group with plenty going on.

A relaxed space for games, hobbies, crafts and a brew. Join a table, share a project, or start your own.

Men's Matters

A men-only group that starts on the bus and ends at the pub, for a catch-up, mutual support and good company.

Memory and inclusion

Memory Café

Music, singing and good company for people with memory loss and those who care for them. Tea, cake and a raffle.

Activity-based cognitive stimulation in a safe, supportive space. Carers can take a break in the bar area.

A welcoming inclusion group for members who need a little extra support to take part, with one-to-one help where needed.

Trips and outings

Days out and good company.

Alongside our weekly groups, we run a wide range of trips and outings through the year, from supported meals out and shopping days to fun days out and our first overnight holidays. A chance to get out, see new places and enjoy good company.

Support for everyday life.

Alongside our groups, AVSED offers practical help and advice across all parts of life and ageing well. Most is free, and you do not need to be a member to ask.

Information and advice

General advice, signposting and seasonal support for any older person. We help you understand your options and point you to the right people.

Help at home and staying safe

Our handyman service for the small jobs, plus support with home safety, security, mobility and adaptations to help you stay independent.

Money, forms and benefits

Advice on benefits, pensions and money matters, help to read and fill in forms, and someone to speak up for you where needed.

Memory and dementia support

Support for people living with memory loss or dementia and those who care for them, through our groups and Time Together, Time Apart programme.

Befriending and getting online

Telephone and home befriending, help with phones and tablets, and support to get out and about and back into the community.

Health, hospital and bereavement

Support to manage long-term health, settle back home after a hospital stay, and a listening ear during difficult times.

Join AVSED.

Getting involved is easy, and we are here to help. You can join for yourself, or refer a friend, neighbour or someone you care about. Some groups need a short chat or assessment first so we can match the right support, so please call us to find out more and book your place before coming along.
